Welcome to the results of the online survey regarding the report titled "A Nation Deceived: How Schools Hold Back
America's Brightest Students." The purpose of the survey was to give people across the nation (and the world) an
opportunity to give their opinions on the effects of the report after one year.
We have several indicators that the report has had considerable impact in its first year. There have been over
one million visits to the website. There are currently over 75,000 copies of the report in circulation (counting
downloads and printed copies). The report has received considerable media attention starting with the feature in
TIME Magazine.
We (the authors) wanted to give a wide spectrum of people an opportunity to provide opinions and perspective on
the effects of the report at the one year mark. We developed a brief online survey of nine questions. What you
have at this website is a copy of the PowerPoint (click here) on the results of this online survey that Nicholas Colangelo
presented at the annual conference of the National Association for Gifted Children in Louisville, Kentucky. We
appreciate the responses to the survey of 2,597 people. Our goal is to complete a comprehensive evaluation of
the effects of the report at the end of three years. That should be an adequate time to assess impact.
In the meantime, a new and vibrant discussion is underway in gifted education. We think it's about time!
Acceleration is a powerful and effective curricular intervention for gifted students. Let's not keep it a secret.
Thank you.
